It is near the end of the term, and that means finals!  Exams, Term projects and the dreaded essays!  In preparation for this, we have been doing a tonne of videos about writing essays.  If you have not checked them out already, head over to our YouTube channel to watch them, and subscribe, so you never miss another video.  We put out study tips, organizational hacks, or homework help every Thursday.

I remember learning to write essays for the first time in high school.  I had heard of these pieces of writing long beforehand.  I had so much anxiety that one day I would have to write one.  I thought they were so scary.

So, here I was now, sitting in class, and the teacher tells us we need to write an essay.  I could feel this cold chill come over me.  My breathing became shallow, and there did not seem to be enough air in the room.  I looked left to right at my friends, who did not seem to be reacting at all.  I finally made eye contact with one and silently gave a cry for help.  They just shrugged and smiled.

I tried my hardest to focus on what the teacher was saying.  It sounded muffled and confusing like he was suddenly speaking a different language.  None of the words could penetrate. I was trapped in my own cocoon of anxiety.

I could not imagine how I was going to manage to create this piece of writing.  There were so many rules!  So many terms.  It was overwhelming.

Even back then, I knew that the best way to tackle a tough problem was to break it up into manageable pieces.

Essays are no different.  Breaking up an Essay or any other big assignment can help to ease some anxiety.  Dealing with a long list of 5-minute tasks is so much easier than sitting down to write an essay.

So, I started plugging away.  Breaking down each part of my essay and tackling each task, one at a time.

Those days of essay anxiety are behind me now.  I love writing essays, and I see them everywhere.  Nearly every piece of writing can be tackled as if it were an essay.  This helps, especially since essays are easy to write because of their structured nature once you have a plan of action.

The top ten lists are just extended essays!  So are Tech reviews, proposals and even recaps.  Think about it, there is an introduction, then the meat of the content are all the things that support their opinion. Finally, the end is a restatement of their position.  They may be loosely based, but the bones are there.

I am pointing this out so that you know you don’t have to be afraid of them anymore.  Essays are not daunting and don’t need to invoke high levels of anxiety.  Essays can be manageable, and it is okay to go into them with confidence.

Once you have a handle on the process, the only thing you have to worry about is writers’ block!

I look back on when I started and how far I have come since then.  I struggled so much, finding my feet on those first essays.  Back when we had to write essays about ourselves, or Romeo and Juliette.

Those first essays were comparatively so easy!  Now, we have to worry about citations and plagiarism and not accidentally send our drafts before rewording every source repeatedly until it is unrecognizable.

If you are still struggling with essays, I have created a course that can help.  This takes study with me to a whole new level!

In this course, I create an essay with you.  Step by step, I show you my process as we create an essay together.

This course can grow with you.  It is sectioned into steps.  As you write your first essays, you can skip over the advanced steps and watch only the videos you need.  As you advance, and your essays and other academic writings become more technical, you can incorporate more advanced research and journal or case study reviews.  This is a course that grows with you, and it is yours forever.

If you have not already joined our private Facebook group, head over and do it now.  It is an incredibly supportive community where you can receive help and encouragement.  We are always answering questions and engaging with members every day. We would love to see you there.

Have an amazing adventure!
