First of all, I think it important that we recognize the most sacred of holidays. An important day that, year by year, goes all but forgotten. A day that brings both sinners and saints together and draws them into the sweet, sweet, glazing of unity. The day I speak of is National Donut Day.
Donuts have been like family to me. My first real job was working at Tim Horton's. It was really great, and the people I worked with came second only to the sticky goodness straight out of the glazer. Is there anything better than a fresh, hot donut straight off the line?
Obviously I am talking about comfort food. I suppose now is a good time to warn of the complications of eating donuts strictly for nutritional value. Them being deep fried balls of carby goodness, smeared with icing or covered in sugar. Don't even get me started on the jelly filling!
I realize that this post may seem a little intense but I take my donuts very seriously. Especially the chocolate sour cream glazed. These are next to impossible to find, but if you do you have to try them. They are money!
What are your favorite kind of donut? Or do you prefer a different pastry? Let me know in the comments. I am always looking for new deliciousness to put into my food-hole.
